Historique :	On ignore comment ce tableau est parvenu à l'hôpital. Henri Sauvage est né à Blois en 1853 et mort en 1912. Il fut l'élève de Ch. Busson et de Bonnet. Après ses années de formation à Paris, il devint portraitiste de la bourgeoisie blésoise. L'aspect le plus original de son oeuvre se trouve dans des peintures d'intérieur d'église. Les musées de Blois, Châteauroux et Lisieux conservent des toiles de ce peintre. Cette peinture exécutée en 1886 et exposée au salon parisien de cette même année sous le numéro 2134 représente un bas-côté de l'église Saint-Nicolas de Blois (ancienne abbaye Saint-Lomer), édifice datant des 12e et 13e siècles se trouvant dans le quartier de Foix, au pied du château. Le musée de Blois conservent deux études de ce tableau.
