Historique :	Le sculpteur G. Clere est né à Nancy en 1829 et est un élève de Rude. Il a débuté au salon de 1853 et s'est illustré entre 1859 et 1875 en décorant le salon de statues allégoriques. Les musées de Nancy, du Louvre et du Caire possèdent des statues de lui. Cette statue provient du palais du Trocadéro et a été attribuée à titre de dépôt à la ville de Ligny-en-Barrois en 1936.
