Historique :	Le peintre François Nouviaire est né à Stenay en 1805 et mort en 1837. Il a été un élève d'Ingres et a figuré au salon de 1833 à 1835. Ce tableau fait pendant au tableau représentant saint Grégoire et saint Augustin de Cantorbéry.

Précision_sur la representation :	Immaculée Conception debout sur le croissant lunaire posant le pied gauche sur le serpent. la composition est en cercle. les deux anges qui se tiennent aux cotés de la Vierge décrivent le début du cercle continue par des petits angelots assemblés par paire. beaucoup de mouvement a été apporté par l'artiste dans l'allure et le vêtement des personnages
