Description :	Cet ensemble comporte, fixé sur un grand plateau de noyer un galvanomètre à aiguille, un commutateur à poignée, un ensemble de six bornes de laiton, un manipulateur-interrupteur que l'opérateur actionne, le télégraphe proprement dit (de modèle 1878), qui se compose d'un mouvement d'horlogerie en laiton verni, entraînant un ruban de papier devant un stylet encré, lui-même commandé par une paire d'électro-aimants, afin de porter sur ce ruban les inscriptions du code Morses, traits ou points.

Historique :	Ce type d'appareil a été installé à partir de 1894 dans les mairies non siège de bureau de poste et envoyé au secrétaire de mairie qui servait d'employé contre une petite indemnité. Ces appareils ont été réalisés à partir des modèles conçus en 1878. L'appareil de Mesnil-sur-Saulx a été construit par A. Postel-Viney à Paris. Il était propriété du Ministère des Postes et Télégraphes sous le n° 15826. Habituellement, dans les administrations, on ne conserve que le télégraphe proprement dit. Il est donc très rare de rencontrer un tel ensemble complet. Quelques musées comme le musée d'histoire des P.T.T à Riquewihr ou le musée de la Poste à Paris en possèdent des semblables.
