Description :	Le poêle se compose d'un corps principal s'inspirant du fût de la colonne dorique et d'un corps supérieur constitué d'un piédestal surmonté d'un élément en tambour de colonne cannelée sous le piédouche d'un vase campanulé sommé d'un fretel.

Historique :	Ce poêle est une oeuvre exécutée d'après un projet concerté, proposé par un architecte ornementiste. Une telle oeuvre monumentale ne peut avoir été exécutée que par l'atelier d'un maître-poêlier de toute première importance. Selon toute vraisemblance et en comparaison d'autres poêles (par exemple celui de la Salle du Synode du Palais Rohan à Strasbourg ou celui du château d'Haroué) ou de projets dessinés, le poêle de Saint-Mihiel peut être attribué à l'atelier François Paul Acker de Strasbourg, d'après un projet concerté dû à Pierre Michel d'Ixnard (poêle de la Grande Commanderie d'Ellingen en Allemagne).
